This 9-day itinerary to Sahara from Casablanca offers a comprehensive exploration of the southeastern region of Morocco. The itinerary includes visits to ancient Kasbahs, the majestic Atlas Mountains, picturesque oases with palm trees, mud-brick towns, and the mesmerizing Sahara Desert with its sand dunes. Day 1: Arrival at Casablanca Aiport
Upon arrival at Casablanca airport, you will be greeted by our driver who will transfer you to your hotel. You will have a chance to explore Casablanca, Morocco's largest city and economic center. Some highlights include Duke Moulay-Abdellah Street, Plaza Mohammed V, Old Medina, United Nations Square, Hassan II Mosque, Marina Center, and Twin Centers.
Day 2: Travel from Casablanca to Rabat and Meknes
After breakfast at your hotel in Casablanca, the journey continues towards Rabat - the political capital since 1912. Explore this city known for its red ochre walls built by Sultan Yaqub al-Mansur. Visit attractions like the Tower of Hassan II before heading back to New City where you can see Parliament Building, Grand Mosque, Mekhwar neighborhood, and Royal Palace.
After lunch break, continue on a two-hour drive to Meknes - an ancient capital with its medina, royal villa of Sultan Moulay Ismail, and French-built new village.
Overnight stay in Meknes.
Day 3: Meknes to Fes via Volubilis
Start your day with breakfast before departing for Fez.
En route visit Moulay Idriss - a charming town known for its white houses clustered on a hill.
Closeby, explore Volubilis - an important archaeological site showcasing ancient Roman city life.
Afterward, continue to Fez and check into your Riad accommodation.
Day 4: Explore Fes with local guide
Embark on a guided tour of Fes - the oldest imperial city in Morocco.
Discover the spiritual and cultural heart of the country as you visit attractions like Piazza Bujlud, Serrajin Square, medina, Attarin souk, Madrasa Attarin water clock, and tannery quarter (Eshuara).
In Fez el-Jedid, explore Mechuar royal quarter, Royal Palace, and Jewish Quarter. Enjoy an overnight stay at a Riad in Fez.
Day 5: Travel from Fes to Merzouga desert
Leave Fez after breakfast and head towards the Middle Atlas region. Make stops at Ifrane - known as "Switzerland of Africa" for its European architectural style - and Azrou where you can find Barbary monkeys in national park cedar forests. Continue through Ziz valley until reaching Erfoud famous for its fossils. Arrive at Merzouga desert where you will switch to camels for a two-hour ride through sand dunes to Khaimah camp in the heart of Sahara Desert. Experience Berber tea reception according to Saharan traditions before spending the night under the stars in a desert camp.
Day 6: Explore Merzouga desert area
Witness sunrise over sand dunes before riding camels back to Merzouga hotel for breakfast and shower. Visit Khamliya village known as "black village" due to its history tied with Sudanese slave traders who became skilled musicians. Enjoy a Gnawa music concert performed by locals before embarking on a four-wheel drive adventure along Paris-Dakar rally tracks visiting Khol mines and remnants of a French and Berber village. Take in panoramic views of Erg Chebbi's orange sand dunes and interact with desert nomads to learn about their way of life. Return to the hotel for free time and overnight stay.
Day 7: Merzouga desert travel to Todra Gorge to Ouarzazate
After breakfast, depart for Todra Gorge - famous for its towering natural rock faces that attract climbers from around the world.
Explore the gorge before continuing the Moroccan tour through Dades Valley, Valley of Roses, Valley of the Thousand Kasbahs, and finally arriving in Ouarzazate - also known as Hollywood of Morocco.
Visit Kasbah Taurir and optional film studios tour before transferring to your hotel.
Day 8: Ouarzazate - Ait Ben Haddou - Marrakech
Start your day by exploring Ouarzazate,
known for being a filming location for many famous movies.
Continue on to visit Ait Ben Haddou - a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring an ancient kasbah where you can enjoy breathtaking views from atop.
Cross over High Atlas Mountains with stunning landscapes en route to Marrakech where you will spend the night at a Riad.
Day 9: Visit Marrakech with local guide - Airport transfer
Embark on a guided tour of Marrakech, famous for Djemaa el-Fna Square which offers a unique sensory experience.
Other highlights include Majorelle Gardens, Menara gardens, Saadian Tombs, medina or melle (old Jewish quarter), ramparts walkways, and modern Geliz city area showcasing Western influence lifestyle.
After exploring Marrakech attractions, you will be transferred either back to Casablanca airport or Marrakech airport, marking the end of your Sahara tour.
